When installing a new heat pump system, it’s prudent to know what kind of heat pump incentives are available to you as a homeowner.
The team at ARS/Rescue Rooter(R), your preferred home comfort professionals, will be happy to advise you on qualifying equipment. The 2022 Inflation Reduction Act provides homeowners with incentives when they upgrade to qualifying HVAC systems.
Here is an overview of tax incentives for purchasing new heat pumps and how ARS/Rescue Rooter can help you navigate the Inflation Reduction Act incentives and maximize your savings starting in 2023.
Tax Incentives
You could be eligible for a tax credit of up to 30% of the cost of specific energy-efficient home improvements, including the cost of installation, up to $2,000. Eligible equipment includes specific heat pumps, heat pump water heaters, boilers, electrical panels, and insulation.

Benefits of Installing a New Heat Pump
If you’re more familiar with using a traditional furnace to keep your home warm and cozy, instead of running a heat pump, these are the main benefits of installing heat pumps to keep in mind:
Savings
Heat pumps cost less to use and maintain because they have fewer parts to wear out than a conventional heating and cooling system.
Heat pumps are also a great way to save money on your energy bill. Heat pumps cost less and are 3-5 times more energy efficient than traditional heating and cooling methods. Heat pumps are also more environmentally friendly than other heating and cooling options, making them an excellent choice for those who want to be more eco-conscious.
Installation
ARS/Rescue Rooter’s HVAC technicians can install a heat pump more easily than a standard setup that relies on a separate air conditioner and furnace.
Convenience
With a heat pump, it’s a snap to switch between heating and cooling modes. One system handles both functions.
Efficiency
Because heat pumps move heat from one location to another, such as outside during summer and inside in winter, they are much more efficient than systems that have to produce heat and cooling.

Heat Pump FAQ's
What SEER heat pump qualifies for a tax credit?
A SEER of 15 is the requirement for the 2022 tax credit of $300 (the Inflation Reduction Act revitalized an existing program for the year 2022). Starting in 2023, the tax credit gets bigger (up to $2000). As of right now, we know that to be eligible to get the new tax credits, equipment "must be in the highest efficiency CEE tier.” We will know more information on this as 2023 unfolds.
